"We all use math every day."

I encourage my students to watch the TV show, "Numb3rs," which is on at 10pm on Fridays on CBS (Channel 2).  The show is crime drama that involves two brothers, one who is an FBI agent and the other who is a brilliant math professor.  Together, they work to solve crimes.

The show has a partnership with Texas Instruments (the company that makes graphing calculators, among other things) and NCTM (the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics).

I offer an extra credit opportunity every week for those who watch the show.  Watch the show on Friday and submit a write-up on Monday.  The write-up must include three paragraphs about the episode: one about the plot, one on how math was used, and one on your opinion of that episode.  One write-up is worth 2 extra credit points.

"Numb3rs" is a trademark of CBS.
